2010 Student Jazz Camp

Are you searching for ways to dramatically improve your musicianship and jazz performance skills?

Are you looking for an experience that provides multiple opportunities for real gig experience in addition to dedicated/daily personal instruction from world-class musicians.

Have you ever wanted to travel abroad and experience new environments, people, a new perspective?

No other jazz camp in the world successfully combines a true immersion cultural experience coupled with world-class music instruction and multiple live gig playing experiences.  Become a better musician, performer and citizen of the world.

Our students have gone on to earn placement in the top jazz ensembles at major university and high school jazz programs through expanding their musical vocabulary, expressiveness and instrumental proficiency.  For many, the camp affords a first opportunity to play real gigs, prepare set lists, coordinate set-up and learn to become comfortable with an audience – a very different experience than the traditional “end-of-the-week concert” at most jazz camps, and a more practical introduction to the experience of a working musician.  Others have used the camp as a re-discovery of passion for jazz and for playing their instrument.  An opportunity to focus on “getting their playing back” and expanding their musical horizons.

From a cultural perspective, students are immersed in small village Italian culture from day one – from small, family-owned “general stores” to meals cooked from garden ingredients and with local cheeses, olive oils, breads and homemade pasta.  Student excursions have included the incredible historic ruins of Pompeii, trips to the beach at Termoli on the Adriatic sea, performances in multiple medieval Italian villages, and even foosball tournaments with local Italian students in the village restaurant.

Do you have a goal of earning a spot in the top jazz ensemble in your school?  Do you want to improve your musicianship and gain small group jazz experience? Apply to the 2010 ijamjazz summer jazz camp.
